Start with definitions your team can use

An inventory entry should answer a question about a real system. Before deciding how to store a record, identify its consumer and the decision it will support. The same discipline applies to access: a credential, a balance of service credits, and an entitlement should have distinct meanings.

Read a guide alongside one application you know. Write down its components, the people responsible for them, and the assumptions you cannot yet verify. Review the result with a maintainer. Use the disagreement to improve the record rather than hiding it behind a vague confidence label.

Continue with the Stacks API guide, or explore the complete stack atlas to connect this topic with the rest of the system.
